There are 387 beds in the Department of Neurology of The First Hospital of Jilin University. On average more than 10,000 inpatients, 200,000 outpatient and emergency patients are admitted each year.
1. International standard N-ICU ward
The department conducted artificial airway, mechanical ventilation, CVP and invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring, blood purification, nutritional support and other traditional critical medical care and treatment techniques, and bedside EEG monitoring and brain function evaluation, evoked potential, brain injury evaluation and brain death judgment, dual plasma exchange and immunosorbent adsorption, etc.
2. Establishment of a complete system for the prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular disease
The department has standardized stroke units, cerebrovascular disease screening and prevention clinics, the green channels for the treatment of acute cerebrovascular diseases; Ultra-early treatment platform for acute ischemic stroke. On average, more than 1,000 patients entering the green channel for stroke, more than 350 cases of intravenous thrombolysis, and more than 300 cases of acute stroke endovascular intervention are admitted each year.
3. Establishment of a standardized comprehensive diagnosis and treatment center for epilepsy
The center involves the neurology and neurosurgery, radiology, pediatrics, psychology, and genetic diagnosis center, etc., the department conducted tele-video EEG monitoring, evaluation of brain function in patients with impaired consciousness, detection of event-related potentials and multidisciplinary MDT mode preoperative assessment of epilepsy lesions. A variety of epilepsy-related medical and surgical treatments can be comprehensively carried out.
4. The outpatient clinic has a Neurovascular ultrasound and neuroelectrophysiological center
Currently the department has 8 sets of advanced color ultrasound, 15 sets of Transcranial Dopplers, 1 upright tilting bed, 2 sets of cerebral blood flow regulation equipment, and conducted cerebral blood flow testing, ultramicro blood flow imaging for identification of vulnerable plaques, foam experiment, function TCD, upright tilt test for about 100,000 inspections annually. The department also hosted “Vascular Ultrasound Workstation” and set the PFO cloud platform firstly for foaming test, which has promoted the standardization, scientification and systematization in this field.
5. Sleep monitoring
The department has adopted technology of polysomnography monitoring, MSLT, PSG tele-video EEG technology, CPC screening system, brain state measurement training system, sleep-disordered breathing pressure titration technology, and researched on blood flow regulation in sleep disorders.
6. Muscle disease related examination
At present, with 1500 muscle biopsies have been completed, the department conducted inspections of single fiber electromyography, muscle ultrasound, muscle imaging and immunological detection of inflammatory markers.
7. Cognitive related assessment
Currently, the department completed neuropsychological assessments and various laboratory tests, hippocampal magnetic resonance, structural imaging of Magnetic Sensitivity, etc.. It can also complete functional imaging such as fMRI, FDG-PET, and EEG examinations such as P300 and MMN related potentials. Thus, a database of patients with cognitive impairment was established and followed up regularly.
8. The diagnostic platform for neuroimmune diseases
The department conducted many laboratory tests related to neuroimmune diseases, including oligoclonal intrathecal synthesis analysis, myelin-associated antibodies, anti-aquaporin antibody, limbic encephalitis-related antibodies and the detection of paraneoplastic syndrome-related antibodies.
9. A separate Vertigo clinic
The department is equipped with SRM-IV BPPV diagnosis and treatment system. The vertigo clinic receives about 4,000 patients per year with the positive rate as high as 60%. The vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) can be tested, recorded and analyzed. Pulse swing head tester, central and peripheral vertigo can be differentiated by a simple head-impulse test.
