The Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Department of The First Hospital of Jilin University was founded in 1994, it is the earliest plastic surgery department in Jilin Province. It was rated as a national key clinical specialty in 2013. It is the only unit to be awarded the “Plastic Surgery - National Key Clinical Specialty” unit in the three northeastern provinces.

It is a member of the Standing Committee of the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. And it is chairman unit of the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Branch of Jilin Medical Association, the affiliated unit of Jilin Provincial Medical Beauty Quality Control Center and  doctoral and master’s degree awarding unit in plastic surgery of Jilin University. It is a comprehensive development department which integrates clinical, scientific research and teaching, and was ranked the top ten of the hospital management research institute of Fudan University in 2017.

In recent years, the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Department of The First Hospital of Jilin University has grown continuously under the leadership of the director of the department, Professor Zhang Duo, and has grown rapidly from the beginning. There are 21 clinical staff in our department, including 17 doctors and 4 nurses, 3 chief physicians and professors, 4 deputy chief physicians and associate professors, 6 attending physicians, 4 resident physicians, and 2 doctoral supervisors, 6 postgraduate supervisors. A professional team with strong medical ability, high scientific research quality, reasonable age structure and vigorous vitality has been formed.

In clinical practice, the department has initially established a comprehensive plastic and cosmetic center with multiple specialties, and has developed towards a professional direction, and has formed a number of sub-professional medical teams. At present, the number of outpatient and emergency is nearly 30,000 per year and the annual volume of operations is nearly 8,000. The treated diseases covered all sub-specialties of plastic surgery and a multidisciplinary cooperation platform has been established with many related departments in the hospital. The academic backbone of the sub-professional medical team are all members of the national society, with advanced technology in China, with clear clinical diagnosis and treatment characteristics and scientific research development direction. Since the establishment, our department has been focusing on talent training, encouraging young and middle-aged physicians to go to well-known medical schools at home and abroad to study special technologies, systematically learn and master the core technologies related to plastic surgery, and actively promote them in clinical practice. In recent years, more than ten medical staff have gone to the famous plastic surgery and medical centers at home and abroad to do the further study, including the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Stanford University and Catholic of university of South Korea. It is a technical team with international awareness of plastic surgery and strong ability of communication, and great technical strength and development potential. At the same time, with the leadership of the hospital, the department took the lead in establishing the 96608 Jilin Provincial Facial Emergency Trauma Platform, improved the transport and treatment of emergency trauma patients in Jilin Province, and be listed as a key development project in the “13th Five-Year Plan” of the service industry in Jilin Province. With high reputation in the domestic plastic surgery field, after continuous development and growth, it has now become a large-scale “Internet + medical” comprehensive platform that integrated emergency first aid, medical alliance cooperation, and precise medical treatment.

In scientific research, with the leadership of Professor Zhang Duo, the department actively applied for various topics, carried out various research projects. Since the establishment of the department, it has applied for more than 40 national and provincial projects, with a total funding of 20 million yuan, and published more than 200 papers.

Based on this, the department has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with many large scientific research platforms through continuous efforts, such as:
