Introduction

The Lithotripsy Center of The First Hospital of Jilin University was established in 1989. It is the first professional medical team in Jilin Province to use “extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy” to treat urinary calculi.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the preferred treatment method for urinary tract calculi recognized by the medical community at home and abroad, which has the advantages of safety, non-invasiveness, remarkable curative effect and low price. And extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is suitable for about 90% of adult urinary tract stones. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy complements minimally invasive surgical procedures such as ureteroscopic lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy, with outstanding advantages in the treatment of postoperative residual stones.

There are 5 medical technicians in the center, all of whom have at least 5 years of experience in lithotripsy operation, including 2 senior chief physicians with rich clinical experience in urology and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

The center is equipped with 3 advanced X-ray positioning extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machines, which have the advantages of accurate positioning and no interference from intestinal gas and physical obesity. The center has an average of more than 5,000 extracorporeal lithotripsy cases, with a treatment success rate of over 95%, and is especially specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complicated urinary tract stones.

In 2005, Zheng Xueqing, director of the center, carried out extracorporeal shock wave therapy for musculoskeletal diseases, created a precedent in the three provinces of Northeast China, and achieved good curative effect on frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, degenerative joint disease, calcaneal pain, nonunion, femoral head necrosis, etc.
