Institute of Translational Medicine
The Institute of Translational Medicine is affiliated with The First Hospital of Jilin University. As the largest translational medicine research base in Northeast China, it undertakes basic, clinical and translational medicine research on major diseases, difficult diseases, common diseases and frequent diseases to explore the pathogenesis, diagnostic methods and intervention measures of major diseases that endanger people’s health. The aim is to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment to provide scientific research support for the prevention and treatment of diseases.
The Institute of Translational Medicine currently has three campuses, covering a total area of 73800 square meters. New campus was established in December 2023, which is located at the intersection of Xinjiang Street and Huimin Road, covering an area of approximately 46800 square meters; The Old campus was established in September 2010, which is located at No. 519, Dongminzhu Street, covering an area of approximately 15000 square meters; Heping Campus was established in 2019 and is located at the Heping Campus of Jilin University, covering an area of approximately 12000 square meters.
The Institute of Translational Medicine has established a number of national, ministerial and prvincial key laboratories and public experimental platforms.

The Institute of Translational Medicine boasts strong technological capabilities and comprehensive academic teams. With a well-balanced talent structure, it has formed a dynamic and pioneering scientific team that integrates basic and clinical research. It currently has 145 staff members, including 26 professors, 23 associate professors, 4 specially-appointed experts at the national level, 1 recipient of the Outstanding Youth Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 leading talent in the "Ten-Thousand Talents Plan" for scientific and technological innovation, 3 recipients of the Excellent Youth Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 outstanding young talent in the "Ten-Thousand Talents Plan" and 1 talent in the National Youth "Thousand Talents Plan". Research directions cover various fields such as pathogens, tumors, infections, transplantation, immunology, and animal models.
The new campus of The Institute of Translational Medicine has become a landmark building of the Hospital, in line with the overall development strategy of the Hospital. It serves as a shared, mobile, and open integrated comprehensive scientific research service platform, truly realizing the ideal "Home for Researchers". The Core Facility established in the new campus includes Bioinformatics Platform,Imaging Platform,Flow Cytometry Platform,Molecular Biology Platform,Mass Spectrometry Platform,Cell Biology Platform,TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) & Pathology Platform,Experimental Services Platform, Structural Biology Platform, and Animal Platform, with complete functions and a wide range of service contents. At the same time, it is equipped with high-end technician to provide targeted personalized technical monitoring and data analysis services. The new campus has an elegant environment and reasonable layout, with 2,078 sets of instruments and equipment, including 49 sets of high-end instruments such as the transmission electron microscopy worth more than 1 million yuan, and the total assets is over 100 million yuan. The new campus will be built into a scientific research platform that can stimulate innovation, lead scientific research development, integrate hardware and software advantages, promote the vigorous development of scientific research achievements of the Hospital, and open up new tracks for scientific research.
Since its establishment, the Institute has obtained a total of 486 funded projects with a total funding of approximately 318 million yuan, including:
6 projects of the National Science and Technology Major Project. Project,
4 projects of the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program),
1 project of the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program),
3 projects of the National Key Research and Development Program,
3 key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China,
6 special projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, among others.
In terms of awards, it has won
1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award,
2 awards for outstanding achievements in scientific research of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education,
2 second prizes of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award,
4 first prizes of the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Award, 2 second prizes of the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology
Award.
In terms of publications, a total of 499 SCI-indexed papers have been published, with a total impact factor of 2939.6, including the first international journal Nature paper in the field of life medicine at Jilin University, as well as high-level papers published in journals such as Nat Rev Microbiol, Sci Adv, Cell Report, Adv Mater, Cell Stem Cell, Gut, and JCI, which have attracted widespread attention and high praise at home and abroad.
The Institute of Translational Medicine of The First Hospital of Jilin University integrates hardware and software advantages, promotes the vigorous development of scientific research achievements of our hospital, and is an important base for scientific and technological research, academic exchange, and talent cultivation.
