The Department of Vascular Surgery of The First Hospital of Jilin University is the training base for peripheral vascular intervention technology of the Ministry of Health. It was awarded the title of “National Key Clinical Specialty” jointly with the general surgery departments of The First Hospital of Jilin University in 2012. There are 51 medical staff in the department. There are 50 beds and 8 intensive care beds. The annual outpatient number is over 18,000 and number of operation is more than 1,200, including more than 500 interventional operations and more than 200 hybrid operations, which ranked the first place in Jilin province for many years.

At present, the department has advanced medical equipment such as percutaneous oxygen partial pressure detector, varicose vein laser treatment instrument, 532nm green laser venous disease treatment instrument, color Doppler vascular ultrasound, multi-function vascular inspection workstation, etc., and has the first Vascular DSA Hybrid Operating Room in Jilin Province.

It firstly carried out autologous bone marrow blood treatment of lower extremity arterial occlusive disease in Jilin Province. The department conducts a wide range of surgical operations and interventional treatments, including various difficult thoracic-abdominal aorta, carotid arteries, subclavian arteries, renal arteries, pulmonary embolism, mesenteric vessels, Budd-Chiari syndrome, sequelae of lower extremity venous thrombosis, lower extremity arteries, and vascular and peripheral vascular disease. The department uses peripheral vascular stents, atherectomy systems, thrombectomy systems, drug-coated balloons, cutting balloons, etc. to treat complex lesions of lower extremity arteries, especially for critically ill patients such as abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture and peripheral important vascular injury, which reaches the domestic first-class level.

In 2016, the VTE screening center in the hospital was jointly established with the Department of Cardiology and the Department of Respiratory Medicine, and it became one of the first 15 licensed demonstration units in China, which regularly conducts training and lectures in major hospitals in Jilin province.

In the past three years, the department has published more than 30 academic papers, including 8 SCI , 3 EI , and 9 Chinese series. It has undertaken more than 10 scientific research projects, participated in 2 national 863 major projects, and the project funds totaled more than 1 million yuan. It has established long-term cooperative relations with the North American Vascular Disease Research Center of Laval University in Canada, the Institute of Life Sciences of Seoul National University in South Korea, and the Suzhou Institute of Medical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and regularly dispatches clinicians to study and exchange at home and abroad, and at the same time absorbs and accepts foreign scholars come to the department for further study.
