Founded in 2005, the Department of Thyroid Surgery at The First Hospital of Jilin University specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid, parathyroid, and various cervical diseases. Recognized as a National Key Clinical Specialty by the Ministry of Health, it serves as a Training Center for Thyroid and Parathyroid Diseases under the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, as well as the Endocrine Surgery Center of The First Hospital of Jilin University. Additionally, it is designated as a Tumor Microwave Ablation Training Base, the Jilin Provincial Engineering Research Center for Thyroid Disease Diagnosis and Innovation, and the leading institution for the Thyroid Diseases Committee and Parathyroid and Bone Metabolism Diseases Committee of the Jilin Provincial Health Management Association, as well as the Thyroid Diseases Committee of the Jilin Medical Security Association. The department also hosts a Postdoctoral Research Station.
The department is composed of an elite team of experienced experts and outstanding young physicians dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of thyroid diseases. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive thyroid disease treatment centers in China, performing the most diverse and highest volume of thyroid surgeries nationwide.

The department currently has 28 physicians, including 5 professors, 3 associate professors, 4 doctoral supervisors, and 8 master's supervisors. With 26 graduate students under its guidance, the department operates 105 inpatient beds.
Clinical Excellence
Annually, the department handles nearly 120,000 outpatient and emergency visits and performs over 6,000 surgeries for thyroid, parathyroid, and cervical diseases. These include:

Since its establishment, the department has undertaken and completed 50+ national and provincial research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with total research funding exceeding RMB 11.15 million.
