Introduction

The Department of neurovascular surgery is affiliated to the Neurosurgical Center of The First Hospital of Jilin University. As a national key clinical specialty, it is the earliest doctoral training unit of neurosurgery approved by the State Council in Northeast China. After more than 50 years of development, the department has formed a treatment team with minimally invasive techniques, advanced equipment, and strong technical power.

The department has a total of 81 beds and an independent neurosurgical intensive care unit. The department is the first batch to receive 150 million CNY from the national cardiocerebrovascular difficult and severe engineering project funding. And we are planning to build the largest cerebrovascular surgical center in Asia, it will be equipped with the first-class equipment such as intraoperative CT, double C-arm cerebral angiography machine, ROSA surgical robot, neuronavigation system, intraoperative ultrasound, EEG monitoring, Petero ZEISS microscope, etc. The department will provide the most professional treatment conditions and lay a solid foundation for the systematic treatment of neurovascular diseases.

On average, the department annually performs more than 2,400 operations of various types of neurovascular diseases. Every year, it would publish a lot of high-level articles and successfully apply for some national-level projects. Hence, both the medical and scientific research levels have always been in a leading position in the Northeast China.

The department has now routinely carried out the microsurgical management and interventional embolization for intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, and spinal vascular diseases. Ventriculoscopy-assisted hematoma removal for cerebral hemorrhage is also a routine practice in our center. At the same time, high and low-flow bypass techniques are also carried out to treat intracranial diseases such as moyamoya disease and complex aneurysms. In addition, carotid endarterectomy and stenting are actively carried out.

At present, the department has built a hybrid operating room for the treatment of complex and difficult neurovascular diseases.

The department has also vigorously undertaken the treatment of the functional neurological diseases, such as intractable epilepsy and deep brain stimulation for movement disorders. The surgical treatment of the above-mentioned diseases has reached the advanced level in China.
