Introduction

The division of Hematology of The First Hospital of Jilin University was founded in 1973, while the Department of Hematology was established in 1990. In 1997, the Jilin Provincial Institute of Hematology was set up. After more than 40 years’ development, it has become a medical, scientific research and teaching center for blood system diseases of Jilin Province. Its comprehensive strength ranks first  in the Northeast China.

The Department of Hematology is rated as the first batch of Key Clinical Specialties of the Ministry of Health, the National Nuclear Radiation Rescue Base,the sub-center of the National Clinical Research Center for Hematological Diseases, Jilin Provincial Clinical Medical Research Center for Hematology, member unit of the China Hematology Specialist Alliance, the leading unit of the Jilin Provincial Hematology Specialty Alliance, member of the Hematology Branch of Chinese Medical Association and the Hematology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the chairman unit of the Hematology Branch of the Jilin Provincial Medical Association, the chairman unit of the Hematology Branch of the Jilin Provincial Medical Association, Jilin Provincial Key Laboratory of Stem Cell Research and Development, Jilin Provincial Key Hematological Tumor laboratory, and Changchun Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Industry Technology Research and Development Center.

The Department of Hematology currently has 203 open beds (including 12 laminar flow wards for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation). The number of annual outpatient visit is over 40,000 , nearly 8,000 patients have been admitted to the hospital.

The Department of Hematology is the largest training base for hematology talents in Jilin Province. A total of more than 300 medical  graduates have been trained, including more than 80 doctoral graduates. It has undertaken more than 200 national, provincial and ministerial level projects, including the National 863 Program, the major scientific research projects of the Ministry of Education, and the key projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China. Moreover, the Hematology Department has participated in more than 130 international or domestic multi-center clinical trials, published more than 700 papers and has Leaded or participated in the edition of 8 national textbooks and 30 medical books.
