The Department of Andrology of The First Hospital of Jilin University is a characteristic specialty newly established in our hospital in 2008 approved by the Jilin Provincial Department of Health. Andrology is a professional discipline that diagnoses and treats diseases of the male reproductive system. The department was approved by the Ministry of Health as a national key clinical specialty and Changchun City characteristic specialty. In 2016, it joined the Northeast Andrology Expert Committee of China Andrology Experts Alliance; In 2017, it was rated as China Andrologist Training (Jilin) Base; In 2018, it was rated as the “Top Ten Brand Departments” of Chinese Andrology (Sexual Medicine); In 2019, it was named the Jilin Center for Chinese Sexology Research.
The department integrates medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. It has the experience and ability to train doctors and postgraduates at the top level. It is a training point for master and doctoral students in andrology. At present, 9 master students and 8 doctoral students have been trained. It has held and hosted the National Andrology Academic Conference, Jilin Province Andrology Annual Conference and various academic salons more than 20 times, which received good social effects.
The department has undertaken more than 10 scientific research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Jilin Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Jilin Provincial Department of Health and the Jilin Provincial Department of Finance. At the same time, it has undertaken more than 10 clinical research medicine projects in andrology, the cumulative scientific research fund is over 3 million yuan. It won the second and third prizes of Jilin Province Science and Technology Progress Award, published more than 50 academic papers and participated in the edition of 10 professional books.
In addition, the department owns the only human sperm bank in Jilin Province. In 2013, it passed the evaluation of the national expert group organized by the former Jilin Provincial Department of Health for the first time, and passed the national verification four times in succession.
The sperm bank recruits sperm donation volunteers to provide sperm sources for reproductive centers in major hospitals across the country. Meanwhile, it carries out self-sperm preservation business, and successfully provides fertility preservation for patients with oligoasthenozoospermia and patients before tumor radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
