The Department of Peditric Nephrology of The First Hospital of Jilin University was formerly known as the Pediatrics Department of The First Affiliated Hospital of Bethune Medical University, which has many well-known domestic experts and professors. The discipline was founded in the 1960s and was formally established as an independent department on November 4, 2011. It is one of the important bases for clinical, scientific research and teaching of children’s kidney disease; It took the lead in carrying out children’s kidney biopsy in Jilin Province, and was the earliest discipline in Jilin Province to carry out the specialized construction of children’s nephropathy.

The department currently has 2 doctors with senior professional titles, 2 doctors with deputy senior professional titles, and 6 attending doctors. 60% of them have doctoral degrees. Many of them have gone to the United States, Beijing, Shanghai and other regions for further study. The department has 30 beds, and specialist outpatient clinics are open all day from Monday to Sunday. The annual number of sdischarged patients is about 1,600, and the number of outpatients is about 20,000.

Department of Peditric Nephrology is the member of the Nephrology Group of the Pediatric Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and the Nephrology Group of the Pediatric Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association,  it is also a key cultivation department of Jilin University, which has led the establishment of Jilin Provincial Pediatric Kidney Medicine Alliance, with more than 90 member units; The department established the Jilin Province Children’s Enuresis Collaborative Group, the MDT Collaborative Group for Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment of Children’s Kidney Diseases and other academic organizations, which has become the diagnosis and treatment center of children’s kidney disease and urinary system disease in Jilin Province.

The range of disciplinary diagnosis and treatment is extensive, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases is complete and its influence in Northeast China and Inner Mongolia continues to increase; The department is mainly engaged in diagnosis, treatment, management, assessment and follow-up for primary glomerular diseases (nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, IgA nephropathy, FSGS, membranous nephropathy), secondary glomerular diseases (lupus nephritis, purpuric nephritis, etc.), hemolytic uremic patients, renal tubulointerstitial disease, hereditary kidney disease, urinary tract infection, acute kidney injury (AKI), chronic kidney disease (CKD), nocturnal enuresis in children, abnormal urination, malformation of the development of the urinary system, etc.

The department achieved significant curative effect in applying multi-targeted immunosuppressive agents such as Pluronic (tacrolimus), mycophenolate mofetil, and rituximab in the treatment of children with refractory nephrotic syndrome, severe lupus nephritis, and severe IgA nephropathy. The department has improved the diagnosis and treatment level of Alport syndrome, dent disease, hereditary nephrotic syndrome, etc., and improved the remission rate of children by applying genetic diagnosis technology and pediatric kidney expertise. The department has set up “Children’s Enuresis Special Clinic” to treat diseases such as nocturnal enuresis, frequent urination and abnormal urination. The department has successively undertaken the projects of “National Youth Natural Science Fund”, Jilin Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Department of Health and Changchun Science and Technology Bureau. The Department of Peditric Nephrology aims to become a first-class pediatric kidney specialty in China and cultivate high-quality medical talents with the concept of “sincere, caring, cooperation and innovation”, wholeheartedly serve the majority of patients.
