The Department of Cardiac Surgery was founded in 1992. Been the largest Center of Cardiac Surgery Treatment in Jilin province, all patients can be provided systematic and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. The center is the only center to carry out heart transplant, and the number of annual surgeries exceeds 1000 in Jilin province. The center is the exclusive quality control center for interventional therapy of congenital heart disease, congenital heart disease interventional therapy training base, peripheral vascular interventional therapy training base in Jilin Province awarded by The National Health Commission. It is also one of the five training bases for coronary bypass surgeons of the Cardiovascular Surgeons Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the only fixed training center in the country for mitral valve repair technology of the Chinese branch of the Asian Heart Valve Disease Society. In 2017, the Department of Cardiac Surgery was ranked the top in the regional ranking of specialties in Jilin Province according to the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) of China’s Hospitals.

The department has a 48-beds independent treatment area, a 14-beds independent ICU, an independent 100-level laminar flow operating room and a hybrid multifunctional operating room dedicated to cardiac surgery. The annual number of outpatient and emergency patients reaches more than 10,000, the number of inpatients is more than 1,600, and the annual operation is more than 1,600.
