Characteristics of Diagnosis and Treatment

Advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery has been carried out for 29 years in the department, which has become a routine approach in liver, biliary tract, spleen, pancreas and hernia repair operation. Minimally invasive treatment of cholelithiasis has been achieved by  using three-endoscopy-joint technology of laparoscopy, choledochoscopy and duodenoscopy. The minimally invasive treatment of bile duct stones, bile duct stricture and malignant obstructive jaundice by ERCP ranks the leading position in Jilin province.

Since the precise hepatectomy for treatment of liver tumors carried out in 2015, many other difficult surgeries have been carried out regularly in this department, such as huge liver cancer resection, extended hemihepatectomy, hepatic caudate lobectomy, pancreaticoduodenectomy with vascular resection and reconstruction, radical hilar cholangiocarcinoma resection with vascular resection and reconstruction, total pancreatectomy, hepatectomy combined with pancreatoduodenectomy, and duodenum preserving pancreatic head resection, as well as international innovative surgery (associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy, ALPPS) for liver cancer with advanced stage.

Besides, this department pioneered the model of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for postoperative treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors in China, aiming to provide patients with comprehensively postoperative treatment plan individually, reasonably, and scientifically. Meanwhile, the department participated in five national multi-center research projects and carried out four clinical trials.

In recent years, the department has energetically developed minimally invasive surgery, which can routinely perform da Vinci robotic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, laparoscopic hemihepatectomy, laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, laparoscopic radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma, laparoscopic splenectomy combined with pericardial devascularization, and other surgeries.
