The Orthopedics Department of the First Hospital of Jilin University was established in 1984 by Professor Xu Xinxiang, a well-known orthopedic predecessor in China. In 2010, under the promotion of professional construction, Department of bone and joint Surgery was formally established.
The former director is Professor Liu Jianguo, and the current director is Professor Qi Xin.
After decades of accumulation of technology and experience, the department has built a first-class expert team in China. The department currently has 18 doctors, including 9 professors, 3 associate professors, and 6 attending physicians; including 6 doctoral supervisors and 9 master supervisors.
The main scope of diagnosis and treatment of the department includes diseases of the large joints of the extremities, bone and soft tissue tumors, pediatric deformities and bone diseases.
Specific diseases include avascular necrosis of the femoral head, developmental dysplasia and dislocation of the hip, arthropathy due to ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis of the knee, rheumatoid arthritis of the joints of the extremities, hemophilic arthritis, benign and malignant tumors of bone and soft tissue, pediatric orthodpeic related diseases, etc.
The department has 62 beds with more than 50,000 annual outpatient and more than 2,000 surgeries, including more than 1,500 artificial joint replacements, which ranks the top in the Northeast.

For each patient treated, we will conduct general consultation, design surgical plans scientifically, complete surgical operations professionally, effectively control pain and carry out post-operative rehabilitation care in a standardized and humanized way to facilitate mental and physical recovery as soon as possible, providing a new medical experience and creating a mutual trust and harmonious doctor-patient relationship.
The department has also undertaken a large number of scientific research and teaching tasks over the years. It has trained 3 postdoctoral fellows, more than 50 doctors and more than 200 master students; In the past ten years, it has completed more than 100 scientific research projects, received more than 16 million scientific research funds, more than 20 awards of various types and published more than 600 academic papers; It has won 1 second prize of the Ministry of Health Science and Technology Progress Award, 5 second prizes of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 7 third prizes of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 first prize of the Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award, and 17 Jilin University Medical Achievement Awards.
