Introduction

The cadre ward of The First Hospital of Jilin University was established in 1985 and it is the earliest senior cadre department established in Jilin Province. The cadre ward is the chairman unit of the Geriatrics Branch of the Jilin Provincial Medical Association, the Geriatrics Branch of the Jilin Provincial Preventive Medicine Association and the Geriatrics Branch of the Jilin Provincial Stroke Society. In 2013, it was rated as a national key specialty of geriatrics and is a joint member unit of the China Geriatrics Center.

Taking geriatrics as the research direction, keeping up with the development trend of geriatric medicine at home and abroad, while doing a good job in clinical work, it has achieved fruitful results in personnel training, scientific research, teaching and many other aspects. The department has trained more than 20 doctoral and master students and instructed students to won 1 National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Fund. It published 93 papers in total, among which 25 are SCI papers and 3 are Chinese series papers.

In 2015, as an associate editor, the department co-published the book “1000 Questions about Common Diseases in the Elderly” with Professor Li Xiaoying, Chairman of the Geriatrics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association.

The department undertakes 26 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and has received 2 educational projects from Jilin University and Norman Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University and has received a total of more than 3 million yuan scientific research funding. It has won 2 second prizes of Jilin Province Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 third prizes of Jilin Province Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 Jilin University Medical Achievement Award.

At the same time, the department has undertaken the English-taught lectures on geriatrics and general medicine undergraduates from the Norman Bethune Health Center of Jilin University for many consecutive years, which has also achieved excellent results in the teaching work of undergraduate diagnostics and general practitioner training.
